 Lesson Plan - EDCP 342A - Pre-Calc 12 - Synthetic Division


Lesson Overview: The concept being taught throughout this lesson is factoring higher degree polynomials through the process of Synthetic Division.


Content Objectives (What will the students know at the end of the lesson): 

Students will be able to: 

  • Understand the process of synthetic division

  • Be able to carry out synthetic division on higher degree polynomials as a way to factor the polynomials


Materials:

  • Synthetic Division Slide Show

  • Kahoot!


Introduction: 1 min.

  • Introduce the Presenters

  • Go over the plan for the lesson


Presentation and Demonstration: 13 mins. 

  • Review Polynomial Long Division

  • Go over a specific case of Synthetic Division

  • Go over why Synthetic Division works

  • How to extend our lesson in the Classroom with more time available

  • Questions!

  • Play Kahoot! to review the methods of synthetic division taught during the lesson (approximately 4 mins.)


Conclusion: 1 min.

  • Ask if anyone has questions.

  1. Hi Alexa, Jennifer and Max. Looks like an interesting lesson, though I couldn't yet access your slides. (Please give me permission with my gmail account, gerofsky(dot)byrne(at)gmail(dot)com).

    Your timeline in the lesson plan needs to be much more well-defined, especially with three people co-teaching. One minute in, one minute to ask "any questions?" (unfortunately never really works, that one...) and then 13 minutes for the actual lesson doesn't really tell you or me what you'll be doing and for how long. Also make sure to say what the students will be doing! Looking forward to a good lesson.
